Description
- Dense plum
- Dried lavender
- Spice
- Ripe tannins
A complex array of dense plum and berry fruits with more lifted notes of fragrant spice, sandalwood, cedar, dried lavender and violet like floral aromas are complimented by savoury, earthy and dark chocolate undertones derived from barrel maturation and an approach to winemaking that emphasises complexity over simple fruit. On the palate the wine is rich and powerful, with a backbone of fine, ripe tannins bringing linearity and structure and a clean, dry finish. A serious, multidimensional wine.
Church Road embraces Old World winemaking with one arm and technological advancements with the other. And it all begins with fruit grown in Hawke's Bay. Church Road Winery, renowned for being the first in New Zealand to craft exceptional quality Bordeaux style red wine, pioneered the creation of the Hawke’s Bay wine industry. Church Road wines are crafted using the most exceptional quality fruit from vineyards across Hawke’s Bay, together with traditional winemaking techniques to create highly acclaimed award-winning wines.
It is highly recommended to cellar this wine as it will continue to benefit from aging, however will still provide satisfying drinking now.
Church Road Grand Reserve wines are produced only in exceptional vintages. The very best low-cropping vineyard blocks are targeted for selective hand-harvesting to yield wines with the greatest possible flavour, depth and concentration. In the winery these wines are made using small batch, traditional winemaking techniques that emphasise texture, structure and subtle complexity, while still letting the fruit shine through.
Food Pairing: These wines are the ultimate match for many game and red meat dishes. If designing a meal to match this wine, think savoury and avoid any overtly sweet sauces.
